The first installment of noted locomotive historian Joseph A. Strapac’s compendium on Santa Fe steam locomotives. This volume covers the early locomotives. It consists of 12 chapters and covers pre-1900 numbers, ancestral and subsidiary corporations, major affiliates, and then the 4-4-0, 4-6-0, 2-6-0, 2-8-0, 4-8-0, 0-4-0 and tank engines, 0-6-0, and 0-8-0 classes of engines. Extensive roster detail is presented, including technical specifications on each engine and ultimate disposition. The book is profusely illustrated, with all types illustrated with photos and most classes illustrated with multiple photos. Where possible, builders photos and in-use photos are presented to assist in understanding developments over time. 580 pages, approximately 600 photos, hardbound. The second printing has a sewn binding.
This is a reservation. The book is in hand and ready to print. The Society needs at least 125 reservations to make a second run. We will make the decision to print in early October and the books will ship shortly thereafter. If the Society does not print, we will issue a full refund. The Society is unlikely to undertake a third reprint, so get them now why you can. Members will receive the 20% membership discount.
